ProjectArt Miami Resident Artist Exhibition at MOCA North Miami

Virtual ReceptionFriday, May 29th / 7–8pm

Corporal Dade

Exhibition ViewingMay 29th – August 31st, 2020Interdisciplinary Miami artists present Corporal DADE, a virtual exploration of Miami-Dade County’s dynamic makeup. Corporal DADE highlights the people and animals that cohabitate in shared spaces throughout our multifaceted community prior to COVID-19. The art exhibited was created during the artists’ tenure as part of ProjectArt’s residency where they teach, mentor youth, and create art in 8 Miami-Dade Public Libraries. Corporal or “Body” in Spanish is especially relevant during this time of social distancing, where we take a moment to highlight this body of work, reminding us of the importance of community and connection.ProjectArt Resident Artists: Aurora Molina, Almaz Wilson, Laura Prada, Lucia Del Sanchez, Mateo Nava, Mateo Serna Zapata, Sonia Báez Hernández, and Susan Feliciano will present and talk about their contemporary artwork they created during their residency.ProjectArt’s Miami program is offered in 8 Miami-Dade Public Libraries including Culmer/Overtown, Hispanic Branch, Kendall Branch, Model City, and is supported by the Miami-Dade County Dept. of Cultural Affairs, The Kleh Family Foundation, The Miami Foundation, The Kirk Foundation, The Batchelor Foundation, Cornelia T. Bailey, Ocean Reef Community Foundation, and more. MOCA has partnered with ProjectArt since 2017, by providing local artists the space and support to present their work

About ProjectArt

ProjectArt empowers youth, emerging artists, and communities through partnerships with public libraries in 8 cities from coast to coast. ProjectArt’s resident artists teach tuition-free, after-school art classes to children in divested areas while developing new artwork in library workspaces. While in-person art classes at the libraries are paused, our resident artists continue to be paid, and we are providing lessons to our students online.
