Summer Art Camp 2024

MOCA’s Summer Art Camp 2024 offered children ages 6-13, a diverse range of activities to ignite their creativity. From Studio Arts Camp to Dynamic Design Camp, the young artists explored their creativity in a stimulating and supportive atmosphere.

Extended Care

We offer Extended Care (8 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.) during our seasonal Art Camps for $10/day.

Studio Art Camp
(Ages 6-9)

Our Studio Arts Camp provides a platform for campers to explore their individual artistic projects while drawing inspiration from MOCA exhibitions, fine art techniques, and renowned artists, both contemporary and historic. Engaging discussions, impressive showcases for family and friends, and hands-on projects await your young artists!

Hot lunch is free for all students but campers are welcome to bring lunch and snacks that do not require refrigeration. Studio Arts campers will have a morning snack at 10:15 a.m. and lunch at 11:30 a.m.

Week 1 (June 10-June14 )

Playful Painting

Discover a world of color! Learn to use many different types of paint; from watercolor, to gouache, to acrylic and much more! Step into abstraction inspired by the work of Manuel Mathieu, and use line, shape, and color to tell your own story.

Fresh Fibers

Weave your way into the history of fiber arts by learning how to work with felt, make your own soft sculptures, and woven wearables! Create indelible designs to share with your friends and family or to wear yourself!

Week 3(June 24 – June 28 )

Surprising Ceramics

Learn about hand building, wheel throwing, and sculpting and much more with air dry clay in this week. Finish the week by creating a collaborative tile mural inspired by the work of Manuel Mathieu.

Light Play

Create work inspired by Light Play- art works that use light! Layer translucent colors, create light drawings with photos, and cast dazzling worlds around you using light and cut outs.

Fabulous Photography

Students will be inspired by the history of photography, weaving their own images out of magazines, creating lenticular illusions, and working with mini polaroids to collage themselves into a whole new world!

Precious Prints

Students will learn all the types and styles of printmaking, creating their own stamps, patterns, and editions. Learn what a lino cut is, collograph, mono-prints and more!

Super Sculptors

Use a myriad of mediums to create your own 3-d sculptures, casts and assemblage animals, create a “Me- ñata” and learn about gravity defying artwork.

Magnificent Murals

Paint the whole world around you! Students will learn all about the art and design of murals, the history of murals for community building, and create their own collaborative murals. This week will culminate in a visit to Wynwood Walls, sponsored by Wynwood Walls Foundation.

Reduce, Reuse, Recreate!

Learn how to use everyday objects and even trash to create magnificent works of art. Create copies of great masterworks, make your own paper, and use natural media to ccreate art for the planet.

Summer Sampler

Explore the topics and techniques we learned all summer long! Students will get a chance to discover a variety of media in this art-packed week including paint, clay, digital art, collage, and printmaking!

Dynamic Design Camp
(Ages 10-13)

Spark your child's imagination and discover the magic of design. Our Dynamic Design Camp introduces campers to the applied arts, including architecture, graphic design, textile design, digital art, and more. Through enriching field trips, captivating discussions, and exciting 2D and 3D projects, your child will develop a newfound appreciation for the world of design.

Hot lunch is free for all students but campers are welcome to bring lunch and snacks that do not require refrigeration. Dynamic Design campers will have a morning snack at 10:25 a.m. and lunch at 12:40 p.m.

Perspective Play

This week we will learn all about perspective! It’s all about how you look at the world, turn the 3D into 2D and back again. Students will use paint, graphite, and mixed media in this dive into creating perspective full artworks.

Artistic Apparel

Create your own wearable art in this introduction to textile and fiber art. Students will learn about the history of gees bend quilting, how to upcycle clothing, and even screenprint their own designs.

3D Worlds

Step into the world of 3D arts! Design your own jewelry, sculptures, and miniatures spaces. Learn about the history of architecture to create your own small-scale models inspired by the work of Germane Barnes.

Neat Neon

Binge on Bright colors in this week inspired by light play. Students will make their own “neon” artworks, create RGB layered drawings, and shape their own interactive circuit sculptures.

Photo-Shopped

Students will dive into digital art skills, including editing photos, creating layered digital works and animations, and retro painted cyanotypes.

Week 6 (July 15 – July 19 )

Power of Print

Student will use all the styles of printmaking to create their own zines, from making their own paper, lino cuts, and book making skills. Students will even get to burn their screens for a screen-printing project to let them wear their work!

Literally Figurative

Learn all about figurative, abstract sculpture and industrial design! Learn the basics of sculpting a face, reliefs, and re-imagine everyday items into more intuitive designs. Even learn to cast your own face and hands to create an assemblage self-portrait!

Magazine Mayhem

Learn about various forms of collage and asemblage, using magazines and other found objects! Created 2D and 3D works of art that layer and recycle material.
