A primary source of inspiration in Haitian art is everyday life. In this exhibition, we are given a glimpse into village happenings, festivities, and family gatherings. The artists describe their daily activities and natural surroundings in bright, colorful paintings inspired by personal experience. Haitian art reveals a wonderful sense of community and a lively array of characters. Scenes range from intimate views of daily events to market day and public celebrations that tell the people’s story, a visual continuation of Haiti’s rich storytelling tradition.
