Both programs will be offered at the Museum of Contemporary Art, 770 NE 125th St., North Miami FL. Each is comprised of five 2 week sessions, Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 3:30 PM from 6/12 to 8/18/2017, total of 10 weeks of classes. Creative Arts will be offered in MOCA’s Pavilion Gallery. Dynamic Design classes will be offered in MOCA’s project/auditorium space.

MOCA Summer Camp

Creative Arts Camp [[ SOLD OUT! ]]

Classes will be offered for students ages 6-12, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Pre-care and after-care will be provided for an additional fee from 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM and from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

Classroom capacity is 50 students, with a lead instructor and 4 to 6 counselors. Students will experiment with a variety of creative techniques in a museum environment. Taught by gifted art professionals, all projects are inspired by great works of art dating from antiquity to the present.

Classes are offered in five 2-week sessions and include:

Fairies and Trolls | June 12 – June 23, 2017 [[ SOLD OUT! ]]

Students will learn painting and print-making techniques as they study the work of nineteenth and twentieth century fairy tale illustrators. Fairy tales from Europe, Africa, Russia and Spain will be explored.

Dragons and Knights | June 26 – July 7, 2017 [[ SOLD OUT! ]]

Inspired by Medieval art, students will learn how to draw, paint and make sculptures that represent the Gothic characters of 12th century England, France and Spain. No camp on July 4th. 

Heroes and Monsters  |  July 10 – July 21, 2017  [[ SOLD OUT! ]]

Students will write their own adventure stories and illustrate them, as they study images of mythical gods, American super-hero comics and Japanese manga.

Kings and Queens  |  July 24 – August 4, 2017  [[ SOLD OUT! ]]

Students will draw, paint, and mold clay as they create scenarios from Robin Hood, King Arthur’s Court, The Last Emperor of China and Egypt’s pharaonic dynasties.

Mario and Sonic | August 7 – August 18, 2017  [[ SOLD OUT! ]]

Using the iconic imagery of video game characters, students will create 2-D and 3-D works of art that will be used in animation and videos of their own design.

Classes will be offered for students ages 11-13, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Classroom capacity is 25 students, with a lead instructor and 3 to 4 counselors. This is a project based program offered in 5 two-week sessions which include:

Mythical Creatures of the Renaissance | June 12 – June 23, 2017

Students will study paintings and illuminated manuscripts from the Renaissance era depicting sea monsters, mermaids, and hybrid creatures from Greek mythology. Using fabric and various found objects, they will create their own Art to Wear.

Gothic Romance | June 26 – July 7, 2017

Writer’s Edgar Allan Poe and Mary Shelley thrilled readers during the nineteenth century. Using the characters of Frankenstein, The Raven, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and others in this genre, students will create props and costumes to be used in creating videos and animation. No camp on July 4th.

Who’s the Real Hero? |  July 10 – July 21, 2017

Graphic novels have countless good guys and bad guys. Sometimes they are not easily distinguished from one another. Students will use their own judgement to determine the complex motivations of graphic novel characters. Alternative materials will be used to create clothing and accessories unique to these characters.

Lucky Charms  |  July 24 – August 4, 2017

Students will celebrate the luck of the Irish with Scottish and Celtic traditions. Weaving in wool to create personal clan tartans, students will create textiles during this session. Fairies, leprechauns and banshees will be transformational characters that students will become for a performance in the museum galleries at the end of the session.

Time Travelers | August 7 – August 18, 2017

Steampunk is an inspired movement of creativity and imagination. With a backdrop of Victorian England and the 18th century American Wild West, modern and futuristic technologies are re-imagined using alternative and found materials. A steampunk extravaganza will be produced by students on the final day of camp.
