Gear up for creativity this summer with MOCA North Miami! Sign up for our fully virtual Summer Art Camps for a chance to explore new mediums, learn about famous artists, and dive into fun and creative thinking.
MOCA Summer Art Camps are for ages 6-13, with weekly themes, contact-free supply pick up, and easy to engage hour and a half courses. Students can sign up for a single day sampler, weeklong workshops, or full two week sessions. Scholarships are available!

Scholarship opportunities are limited In order to qualify for MOCA Summer Scholarship please email proof of free or reduced lunch to education@mocanomi.org.
We ask that scholarship registrants attend all camp classes throughout the run of the five sessions from June 14, 2021 through August 20, 2021. Parents must complete a questionnaire in order to attend. The program is funded in part by Miami-Dade County and The Children’s Trust, which collects information gathered in order to better serve South Florida’s children.
Camp supplies are ONLY available for in-person pick up at MOCA North Miami, we do not ship supplies

Studio Art Camp
AGES 6 – 9
Studio Arts Camp is a perfect introduction to the arts for budding artists. Students discover new techniques, historic and contemporary artists, and fresh creative ways of thinking.
Time: 9am – 10:30am
SESSION 1 \ June 14 – 25
Clay Craft: Learn the basics of clay handbuilding and create functional and decorative sculptures. Learn how to use coil, slab and pinch ancient construction techniques to make a vase, cup, and dish. Inspired by ancient African handbuilding techniques.
SESSION 2 \ June 28 – July 9
Media Mixup: Learn how to collage paper, photographs, fabric, beads, and other objects and arrange them. Collage on paper, fabric, and plastic masks surface. This class is inspired by African American artist Mickalene Thomas and Nick Cave.
SESSION 3 \ July 12 – 23
Fast Fashion: Learn sewing, felting, and screen-printing techniques used in the fashion industry. Design your own cotton face masks, bandanas, and tote bags. Inspired by artist Raul de Nieves and Nina Chanel Abney.
SESSION 4 \ July 26 – August 6
Cosmic Comics: Learn the art of virtual storytelling by creating your own comic book, characters and storyline. Learn different styles of character art including how to squish and stretch a character, and how to draw in an anime style.
SESSION 5 \ August 9 – 20
Pro Portraits: Learn how to create observational still life painting and self portraits. Discover the wide world of portraits through different mediums including painting, drawing, and found objects.

Dynamic Design Camp
AGES 10 – 13

SESSION 1 \ June 14 – 25
Creative Casting: Learn the many ways to make moulds using professional level tools and mediums. Create your own simple jewelry, hand casts, and masks. Inspired by the artwork of the current MOCA Exhibition Michael Richards: Are You Down?
SESSION 2 \ June 28 – July 9
Digital Dive: Discover the world of digital media, using professional digital drawing software to learn to draw, paint, and animate digitally. This session includes the rental of a Microsoft Surface Pro Tablet, which must be returned at the end of the session.
SESSION 3 \ July 12 – 23
Fierce Fashion: Learn a variety of stitch work like applique and embroidery, including advanced techniques of shibori- style dyeing, screen printing, and batik. Use what you have learned to design your own prêt-à-porter pieces.
SESSION 4 \ July 26 – August 6
Bounding Books: Create your own art journals from start to finish. Learn the details of book binding and create your own printable comic book or zine.
SESSION 5 \ August 9 – 20
Jump into Japan: Learn how to create Kawaii characters inspired by artists such as Chiho Aoshima and Takashi Murakami. Learn how to create styro-prints inspired by traditional japanese woodcuts, and ink landscapes.

WHAT TO BRING:
- A positive attitude and an open mind!
- Students should have a space set up to get messy
- Art Packs are available for curbside pick-up only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11AM – 1PM, starting June 7th to August 20th. To schedule a pickup please email education@mocanomi.org.
