Join artist Pepe Mar and filmmaker Mark Holt as they discuss their work and connection to the late Miami artist and drag performer Craig Coleman aka VARLA. Moderated by Kevin Arrow, MOCA Exhibition and Project Manager.
The panelists will explore art history, creativity, and drag performance culture within Miami Beach through artwork and video presentations, including excerpts from Gigantic Bitch and Nightmare at Karaoke by Mark Holt. The panel will also examine Coleman’s life in the late 1980s and early 1990s as the legendary drag performer that influenced Miami Beach’s creative renaissance. Through their examination, the audience will learn the story of this influential but overlooked artist who passed away at a very young age but has a lasting cultural legacy in the city.
