How has your work changed over the last few months?
My work has not changed but the pace and workload have been overwhelming. I have been swamped trying to make sense of the onslaught of the latest news developments while trying to make a living and keep my family and friends healthy.
Please share a bit about the photograph that will hang outside of MOCA?
At the age of 76, Nickelberry was still employed as a sanitation worker. He was present at the Feb. 23, 1968 march that turned violent. He served in Korea, but said Memphis in 1968 was as much of a war zone.
He was photographed along with his son (who also worked for the Memphis sanitation department) in 2008.
Do you have a MOCA memory that you want to share?
I have several MOCA memories, but the most recent is walking through Edouard Duval-Carrié’s last exhibition and fully understanding the role of MOCA NoMi in inspiring future local artists. It was absolutely amazing.
