“Art Space as an Art Form: A Discussion About The Center of Contemporary Art and its Legacy“
with lou anne colodny, Gustavo Matamoros, and Barbara Young to be followed by a performance by Gustavo Matamoros.
Sunday October 20th / 3:00-5:00PM
Please join us for a conversation with the former director of the Center of Contemporary Art (now MOCA, North Miami) lou anne colodny, former Miami-Dade Public Library System Librarian/Curator Barabara Young, and Miami-based sound artist Gustavo Matamoros. Immediately following the discussion Matamoros will perform his original work “Williams Tells of Rights” (1994). Misael Soto will lead the discussion as the panelists reminisce about how COCA was founded, what its successful 16 years were like, and how it outgrew its original space and mission. At a time when artists and audience are holding their representative institutions further accountable for their actions, Soto hopes examining one institution’s exciting and humble beginnings might inspire a reexamination of our individual and collective relationships with and within our public institutions.
Gustavo Matamoros will premier “(~) Tilde (´) Tilde” on October 26 as part of his En Residencia Project at the Koubek Center in Little Havana.
