Lip Service, Miami Book Fair’s premier showcase for true stories, out loud, and Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) present:
Storypalooza!: “When Identities Collide.”
What do a Latina woman, a conservative Jew, and a gay Catholic have in common? Their life experiences have been shaped by the intersection of their multiple social identities. Who we are is an intersection of identities: Age. Gender. Race. Class. Culture. Sexual orientation. Religion. Politics. Ethnicity. Language. Physical ability. Physical challenge. Sometimes, identity is what holds us together; other times it pulls us apart. Come out and present a personal true story about a time when the intersection of your social identities challenged and changed you. Twelve readers will receive feedback on their story from an all-star panel of editors, including Lip Service co-producers Esther Martinez and Nicholas Garnett.
Stories must be written and no longer than 500 words (about 4 minutes) long.
Free with museum admission. $5 for non-members | Free for MOCA members & NoMi residents

Curated by Richard Haden and focusing on the works of South Florida artists this exhibition explores concepts and issues of intersectionality, namely the ways in which oppressive institutions are interconnected and cannot be examined separately from one another.
