MOCA CONTEMPORARY DIALOGUES: From Temporary to Permanent Autonomous Zones

Saturday, April 4, 6 PM

Free for members/North Miami residents
$5 for non-members

Join us for a conversation with Professor Alpesh Kantilal Patel of FIU about the concepts behind Alternative Contemporaneity: TAZ, which imagines spaces where artistic freedom and individuality can be fully expressed. In these “Autonomous Zones” formerly marginalized artists can escape the processes of standardization and commoditization decreed by a hegemonic order.

Alpesh Kantilal Patel is an Assistant Professor of Contemporary Art and Theory and Director of the MFA Program in Visual Arts at Florida International University. His art criticism, curating, and art historical scholarship reflect his queer, anti-racist, and transnational approach to contemporary art.
