Art Corps is MOCA’s new outreach program serving teens and young adult males by exposing them to Contemporary Art and using self-expression as a tool for better communication and empowerment.
Modeled after MOCA’s successful Women on the Rise! program, MOCA Art Corps meets the needs of underserved males by engaging them in conversation and activities that promote social awareness and improved social and communication skills. The program utilizes readings, visual presentations of artists’ work, language-building discussions, and hands-on activities that relate to artwork discussed in the workshop.
Artists featured in MOCA Art Corps’ workshops include Kehinde Wiley, Kerry James Marshall, Mingering Mike, Wifredo Lam, Artemisia Gentileschi, and Yoko Ono. The program consists of changing projects, and includes a multi-media and experimental approach, while also using traditional art-making processes like transferring and painting. MOCA Art Corps also includes field trips to MOCA, as well other cultural institutions in Miami-Dade County.
