MOCA and MIAMI

September 17 – October 30, 2005

ARTISTS:
Kevin Arrow, Daniel Arsham, Hernan Bas, Bhakti Baxter, Jose Bedia, Natalia Benedetti, Pablo Cano, Robert Chambers, Cooper, William Cordova, John Espinosa, Teresita Fernandez, Naomi Fisher, Dara Friedman, Lynne Gelfman, Adler Guerrier, Mark Handforth, Jason Hedges, Beatriz Monteavaro, Gean Moreno, Jorge Pantoja, Tao Rey, David Rohn, and Frances Trombly.

The exhibition surveys works by many of the Miami artists who have been featured in MOCA exhibitions since February 1996, and examines the parallel rise of the museum and the Miami artists community. MOCA and Miami is curated by Bonnie Clearwater. In conjunction with this exhibition, an accompanying catalogue that documents MOCA’s history of presenting Miami artists since 1996 will be published. The catalogue will include an illustrated list of works by Miami artists in the museum’s permanent collection. The exhibition and catalogue are generously sponsored by Northern Trust.

The majority of works on view are from MOCA’s permanent collection. MOCA generally acquired these works early in these artists’ careers and therefore the collection reflects a pivotal moment in Miami’s recent art history. Additional works on loan for the exhibition have been included to document recent developments in these artists’ works.
